the way I use it is by gently packing the dirt by foot first, then roll over it with the roller so it's roughly in shape, after that, I use my shaping shovel to slap the dirt until it's hard as concrete. To finish it all off, I put a flexible plate on the lip, hit it with a rubber mallet and hey presto, perfectly smooth jumps.

hey man, I didn't build that roller myself , I bought it second hand from a farmer..I dont know whether its distributed in the states but the brand is called 'Ginge' but i think you'll find a similar grass roller at a better gardening store or home depot...

I guess you can cook up something like that pretty easily yourself using an oil can..
